I am trying to trace any information about my great-grandfather Samuel Gardiner/Gardner of Bisley, born about 1856-57. He was living with a married woman, Selina (nee Cox), who went by Samuel's name. Her husband was Daniel Young. Samuel and Selina had four children - Kate, Charles, Emily and Alice. I do know that Charles was born in Swindon, Wiltshire. Samuel's occupation on Charles' birth certificate is general labourer.

In the 1891 census they are living in Castleford, Yorks area. But in the 1901 census, Selina (marked as \"wife\") is living in Scarcliffe, Derbyshire, with her children, but Samuel is not listed.

I have no other information on Samuel or Selina, so any news would be most appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Pat

Hi Pat,
I have found this family on the 1891 census and had a thought. This Samuel was only 25 on this census but he would have been 35 if he was born in 1856? Are you sure you have the correct dates? I have a lot of Gardiners on my tree including a Samuel from 1856 but I have a feeling he went to Australia as I can't trace the family from 1856 up at the moment.
I will try my best to help sort this for you and get back to you as soon as I can
kind regards
Karianne

1871 Census has George Jas Gardiner age 20 son of Edwin Gardiner and Ann born in Bisley in Water Lane his family at the time was Arthur Albert Gardiner scholar 4, Edwin Gardiner ag. Lab 50, Frederick Edwin Gardiner, scholar 11, George Jas Gardiner tiler and plasterer 20, John William Gardiner carter? 15, Jos Nathl Gardiner 8 All born in Bisley.
my grandfather Henry Gardiner b 1878 married Maud Rosa Hemming 1910 in Bisley. Came to Australia in approx 1912/13 with a son Harry b 1912. Does anyone have any more information on these people. I would be grateful as all my relatives are deceased and I do not have anyone to ask.
