Hi there,
I live in Australia so don’t have the privilege of visiting Bisley very often, so I have a proposition:
About a year ago I did a Y-DNA test with the US company Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) and looked for matches in their website. I was disappointed to see that there were no matches, until I realised that the database is very USA-centric. As my forebears were born, lived, married and worked in Bisley and surrounds for many generations, I reasoned the chances of anyone matching me at FTDNA are extremely remote.
Many of you will know that the Y-DNA test is for males only and traces back the male line of father, grandfather, great-grandfather etc. into the depths of time. Alternatively both men and women can take autosomal tests that should trace their family back about 5-6 generations. These tests can be done with FTDNA or AncestryDNA.
People who sign onto this website obviously have a connection with Bisley and maybe your parents or ancestors came from here. For anyone who is researching their family history for Bisley and surrounds and is interested in adding DNA testing to the mix, I would like to form a DNA discussion thread to discuss and compare results.
My Bisley names include: Hunt, Phelps, Pincot(t), Winder, Gardner, Morgan, Stanley, Webb, Pinney, Howland, Eagles and Whiting.
